Book Reviews

As someone who is trying to start in the art of horror literature, this area is near and dear to my heart.  Since I can remember, I have sought out horror books to read, starting with Goosebumps and children's novelizations of popular horror films (wasn't the 80's great!).  When I was eleven years old, a librarian friend of my grandparents convinced them that I would get bored with reading and give it up if they didn't acquiesce to my requests to pick out of the more mature sections of the library.  They finally gave in and when I told her that I wanted horror, she led me straight to Stephen King.  Yes, I was eleven when I first read "The Shining" and I have been hooked ever since.  With that in mind, I will be reviewing books as I read them and possibly going back to re-read some that I have loved in the past so that I can share them here with you.  So turn on your reading light, sit back, and prepare for sweet terrors!

  3. Few things are more entertaining in a "it's so bad, it's good" way as a b horror movie. However, how terrifying would it be if these movies came to life? Alan Spencer answers that question in his book "B Movie Reels." Check out my review of his novel here:

  4. Has corn become mundane for you in the 37 years since the release of Stephen King's short story "Children of the Corn" or the 25 years since the movie release? Do you find yourself longing for the feeling of terror you once experienced when gazing out into the seemingly endless rows of corn? Well, look no further for your solution! Michael West makes corn scary again in his novel "The Wide Game." Check out my review here:

  6. Do you enjoy vampires that make you swoon as your heart beats faster in their presence? Do you desire to find an immortal love who will sparkle in the sun and make you wish you could give up everything just to share all of eternity with them? Then this book is NOT for you! Mick Ridgewell's vampires are demonic killers with no remorse and an insatiable thirst. If that is more your interest, check out my review of "Evil Never Dies."

  7. Since when did The Rage Circus start reviewing romance novels, you ask? I didn't. Louis Weinberger's "Into the Devil's Reach" is a masterful story of police detective work, serial killers, and satanic cults. A little more interested now? Check out the review:

  11. True horror knows when to make us face things directly and when to leave it to our imagination. When done properly, it lingers and festers in our minds long after we have closed the book. Does Jason Sizemore accomplish this with "Irredeemable," his collection of short stories? Read on to find out!
