About Me

My twisted thoughts and visions are not enough for you?  You want to know a little bit more about the deranged mind who focuses on the macabre?  Well, here you go!

My name is Ira Gansler.  My dream is to be a full-time writer.  Currently, I have one novel awaiting a publishing home titled The Things in the Darkness.  This will be my first novel, although writing fiction has been something I have wanted to do for quite some time.  I have written a screenplay, which is being turned into a feature length motion picture by a local independent horror film maker in Dayton, Ohio, and am currently working on a novelization of that screenplay.  Once that is complete, I will be running a Kickstarter campaign to help fund an independent release.

I currently am a full-time special education teacher at an alternative school for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities.  I graduated from Ohio State with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in 2003.  Following this, I was on active duty in the United States Army where I served as a Calvary Officer.  After my honorable discharge from the Army, I went back to school and earned my Masters in Education.  I have been teaching for seven years.  When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children and engrossing myself in all things horror related.

My favorite horror movies are Re-Animator and Dawn of the Dead (1978).  I am a huge fan of George Romero, John Carpenter, and Clive Barker.  My favorite actors are Robert Englund, Jeffrey Combs, and Bruce Campbell.  I attend conventions whenever possible and have met some really cool people over the years.  I have read everything published by Stephen King and would consider it a dream come true to meet him one day.  I am also a tremendous fan of independent horror (to which I choose to dedicate most of my blog).  My favorite independent horror directors are Henrique Couto and Dustin Mills.  I am a huge fan of Erin R. Ryan.  My favorite indie horror film is either Ballad of Skinless Pete (now called Skinless) or Haunted House on Sorority Row.
